Alligator and crocodile skins are sourced from Louisiana, obtained through a network of daring trappers as well as from alligator and crocodile farms. While farm-raised alligators and crocodiles are typically flawless but smaller (around 6 feet and below), wild skins feature larger
scales and deeper textures that naturally lend themselves to high-quality
production. Our skilled sample-makers carefully cut around any insect bites or
scars from fights, as a perfect wild alligator or crocodile belt is considered
one of the most beautiful in the world. At Sherrill & Brothers, we strive
to procure as many large skins as possible.

All skins are regulated by C.I.T.E.S (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) and the Fish and Wildlife Service. Each skin is tagged through the bottom of its tail, ensuring that only legally sourced materials are used. Periodic inspections guarantee that our workrooms operate under strict regulations, preventing illegal trapping of genuine alligators.

In contrast, when sourcing from Asia, the same level of meticulous trading and farming does not exist. This often leads to problems where crocodiles and alligators do not coexist harmoniously with human
populations. To address this, the farms donate eggs to conservation
organizations, ensuring that these eggs are planted to balance out the annual
trapping. Each trapper is permitted to harvest around 16 or 17 skins.

Alligators were initially valued for their gas supply, and later as a food source when trappers and explorers discovered" them. Only decades later did alligator and crocodile leather become widely recognized for its durability and resistance to the elements.
