HERITAGE & SOURCING
UNCOMPROMISING CRAFTSMANSHIP Federal and state Fish and Wildlife agencies strictly regulate all exotic leathers, and our house is fully compliant. Every American Alligator and Nile Crocodile hide features rigorous CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) certified traceability, expertly chrome-tanned and harking back to wild frontier days—from riverboat swashbucklers selling the Alligators for gas and finally mastering salting the hides that became the favorite saddle leather and boot hide which in a pinch could be traded as tinder for riverboat gambling. American Alligator became a part of frontier lore including even John James Audubon’s legendary 12-foot alligator. Legends abounded about a 22foot gator and many a frontiersman began a lifetime love the American Alligator although the Alligator was unregulated and the hobby could result in death, Many of the Fish & Wildlife approved trappers of today can trace their roots to the early day when their ancestor was indeed an American Alligator sharp shooters as they needed to preserve the majority of the skin.
Now known as "crusts" to be tamed and colored. All American Alligatorbelts and Nile Crocodile belts (used for our distinctive colors) are proudly made in our workroom in El Paso, Texas.
